Rework station

  • production of electronic circuit boards is not always error-free, even with our high quality standards
  • repair of assemblies or replacement of components sometimes necessary
  • ONYX 29: semi-automatic selective soldering device at Grundig Business Systems
  • high-precision work, not reproducible manually
  • flexible adaptation for small series possible

The rework station makes BGAs repairable

If a component is suspected to be malfunctioning - e.g. short circuits are detected using an X-ray device - the rework station is used. It creates high-precision work that would not be possible by hand. With its help, for example, BGAs (ball grid arrays) can be repaired. These are ICs in which the connections are in the form of a grid on the underside of the component. Only with the rework station BGAs can be removed easily, the circuit board cleaned and the BGA reinstalled. Other applications are SMD components such as 0201, CSP, BGA, flip chip, LGA, connector shields or other special components.

Automated processes ensure the best results

First, the circuit board is fixed and preheated by powerful thermocouples. The component is then heated further using a programmed temperature curve until the solder melts. The component can then be lifted off without damage. The pad is cleaned by sucking off the remaining soldering stock with a nozzle. A new BGA can then be set.

The rework station works semi-automatically. This ensures reproducible, consistent results and controllable processes when, for example, repairs are carried out in small series. The manual intervention is minimized and the efficiency gain at higher quantities is maximized. However, since creating these profiles takes time, the machine is primarily important for mass repairs. The human repairer is therefore not replaced by the machine but successfully supplemented.
